Wind Powered Generators - Some Faqs Answered

The nature has paid the price for extraordinary expansion of human civilization; the non-renewable energy resources of the world have been nearly exhausted. Now scientists all over the world are trying to work out a solution to make up the energy shortage that the human civilization is going to face in the coming years. Among many other products under development, the scientists have invested great hopes in the potentials of wind powered electricity generators. This is a system that harnesses the power of the wind to produce usable energy. So far you have never paid any heed to the winds that apparently lack any material value. But now the situation has changed the wind can be the solution of future, the answer to the concern over energy shortage in the future world. Just imagine, you do not have to foot the fat electric bills every month, instead just generate some electric power from the wind that is blowing overhead! No, it's not a scene from science fiction. a wind power electric generator can actually make it possible for you. No matter, what speed the wind is blowing-low or a high speed-the wind powered generator has the capacity to harness the wind-energy to produce electricity. In general, a wind powered generator requires 3mph to 150mph wind speed to start producing electricity. It does not matter if you reside in an area where wind blows at a lower speed. Even then your wind powered generator will be able to produce enough energy to save you from paying any electricity bill. This becomes possible because your wind powered generator works all day round, even when you are not home. As a result, electricity is produced even when they are not utilized; thus there is always enough supply of electricity generated by the wind powered generator. If you are living in a high wind speed area, you will have many occasions when there will be excess production of electricity. Most of the wind generators provide you the facility of storage. You can store the excess electricity for future use. There is another way of utilizing this excess electricity produced by your wind powered generator; you can send the excess electricity to the grid meter in return of either a credit, or cash. Wind powered generators are typically small in size. They are mounted on your rooftop. They are available in the forms of propeller or turbines. A home wind electricity generator is made of a few simple components. The major component of the system is: a tower and a small wind turbine usually mounted on the tower. It also includes such parts as inverters, controllers, and/or batteries. In order to take advantage of increased wind speed, you have to place the system higher. The higher it is positioned, the greater will be the output.About the author Jason Uvios writes about on Wind Powered Generators - Some Faqs Answered to visit :- dedicated backup generators, portable generator service and parts and rv generatorsSource: http://www.articlesalley.com/article.detail.php/42010/294/Causes_and_Organizations/Environment/51/Wind_Powered_Generators_-_Some_Faqs_Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Where can I buy a simple rooftop electrical wind generator that can plug into the exisiting ring main.?

    • ANSWER:
Basically, you can't do that. Most wind generators that are small enough to fit on a house roof will only generate 12v DC. They would normally be used to charge up larger 12v batterries which are either used to power low voltage systems of some kind or they are used as a back up in the event of a power failure where they can be used to power limited mains equipment such as computers via an inverter. Suitable site that you might want to look at for further info are http://www.maplin.co.uk or http://www.bullnet.co.uk I hope this helps.

  2. QUESTION:
Are rooftop wind generators cost efficient?
Will they save me more than they cost me? Including matainence, repairs etc. My electric bill is usually 125 per. I have an average wind speed of 9MPH on my roof year round.
    Sorry 125 per month

    • ANSWER:
Most turbines don't work at 9mph - they kick in at 15mph. Also, consider this: if they were cost effective, don't you think everyone would be installing them? A neighbor of mine just got permission to install a turbine 50 ft up. He is all excited - most neighbors don't like the idea. It puts out 5dB over the limit for noise, there will always be moving shadows, and it will stand out. He expects that the payback will be about 30 years, maybe only 25. With proper maintenance, it might last 35 years. There are places they are cost justified, though. I'm not against the technology, but I am against the misleading push by governments and well-meaning but myopic tree huggers.

  3. QUESTION:
How much energy does a ROOFTOP wind turbine...?
...have to produce in order to be linked to the main grid? I'm not really interested in the battery backup system but feel free to include that info as well.

Could you explain these NUMBERS to me like I were a vegetable please?

    -generator rpm
    -kW
    -voltage

Please tell me how they are related and whatever else there is to it. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
You can link in your wind turbine using an inverter and controller, regardless of how much juice your turbine produces. The more you produce, the less you have to purchase from 'the Grid'. You can even get money back!

      http://greenenergy.50webs.com

They have done all the research and have simple step-by-step instructions, even how to get the deep-cycle batteries for free.
All you have to do is follow the directions.

To find out how much power you would need to generate to get off the grid:
look on your electric bill and see how many KWH (KiloWattHours) you used every month for the entire years.
Add them all up and divide by the 12 and you will get a monthly average of your power consumption (roughly accurate)
      Example:
So far this year (6 months) you have used/purchased 3600KWH from the electric company 'Grid', or an average of 600KWH per month, or about 20KWH per day. That's just short of 1KW per hour.
So, you would need to generate about 1KW every hour to 'get off the grid'.
The NUMBERS (rpm, kW, voltage, tower height, blade length, etc) varies depending on the design and the manufacturer.
I spent many hours reading the specs, formulas, and let me tell you, there's a lot to it.
That's why http://greenenergy.50webs.com was such a relief. I didn't have to figure all that stuff out, I just had to follow simple instructions.
      good luck to you

  4. QUESTION:
Should windfall oil profits be taxed and used to fund alternative energy?
The technology already exists to make cars from composite material (thread and nylon laminate) which is stronger than steel but weighs 1/4 less than steel.

Horizontal wind generators and /or solar cells on everyone's rooftop will charge batteries in our garages.

Our hybrid gas/electric cars would recharge for free overnight
and gas consumption could easily drop by 75% for most city commuters. Many would never use the gas part of their hybrid at all.

The technology already exists. All we need is a democrat in office who will implement a real national energy policy instead of a "By the oil corp, for the oil corp" policy that the GOP insists on forcing on us.

    • ANSWER:
ha ha ha ha.... sure, tax the 8 cents collected on a dollar's sale of gas and do nothing about the 42 cents of government taxes collected. But let me tell you when you do:

      A) It has a similar effect to taxing cigarettes for health insurance. The consumption (and in the case of oil production) goes down, which means the revenue goes down, which means the program you were funding has less money to work with if it does not get shut down entirely like many health initiatives were after the billion dollar lawsuits against the tobacco companies during the Clinton administration.

      B) Or every American can get their wish and oil prices will go down. It happened in the early 80s, when oil drastically dropped down to a barrel. The result was that the windfall profits taxes left by Carter actually ended up COSTING the government money because the revenue fell so low the taxes collected were scant, and in the process numerous oil company employees lost their jobs. This severely drained the economy as it contributed to higher unemployment, a loss of standard of living among many people who had been living just fine despite the poor status of the economy, and government was eventually forced to repeal the winfall profits tax just to get oil companies in a position where they could actually process enough in the refineries to meet demand.

You can blame it all on the GOP, but when you're waiting for gas in a line for two hours like people were during the Carter administration because of price gouging, a prime example of what happens when the government interferes in the free market to place a price ceiling on consumables, you will miss the days of the evil oil companies reign. And in the meantime the lowered sales and loss of revenues will back up development, just like it did as a result of Carter's policies, and that is why the US is still not energy independent to this day.

Even under optimal conditions it will be another 15 years before it could be energy independent anyway, provided the pointless corn subsidies stop and people start growing sugar cane like Brazil (and that took 35 years to wean them off of imported oil), so don't expect things to be extremely different even if Obama is in charge for two administrations when he leaves. Technological development requires capital and innovation with minimal government direction, the misapplication of corn ethanol subsidies shows exactly how government often chooses the wrong technologies to invest in and actually ends up exacerbating other problems. The oil companies should invest in energy technology but they can't come up with enough money even if you allowed them to have no profit, and anyone with any sense knows doing that is just going to give them that much less of a reason to increase output, keeping the consumer price high and decreasing the revenue available for R &D.

Wood Pellets Aren't A Cheap Alternative Fuel Anymore

I recently updated the Fuel Cost Comparison Chart at Alternative-Heating-Info.com and the results were surprising. As of 3/20/06 it was actually cheaper in Metro Boston to heat with natural gas than with wood pellets!

During these times of fuel price volatility, it’s important to keep a close eye on the relationship between fuel prices. Any homeowner who uses a wood pellet stove to supplement their gas furnace could be losing money and not even know it.

If you can use a calculator, you’re only minutes away from figuring out which fuel is the cheapest to burn at any given time.

When you compare fuel heating costs make sure it’s apples to apples. The standard quantity used for comparing residential fuel costs is 1,000,000 BTUs of fuel heat content.

Cost To Burn Wood Pellets

Since a wood pellet stove needs only 125 lbs (1/16 of a ton) of pellets to generate 1,000,000 BTUs, divide the cost per ton by 16. At 8 a ton for wood pellets it costs .38 to produce 1,000,000 BTUs.

Cost To Burn Natural Gas

The price per therm (look at your gas bill) of natural gas in Boston is .1813. When you multiply it by 10.30 (10.30 cubic feet) it costs .17 to produce 1,000,000 BTUs.

It’s easy to see that natural gas heat now costs about [POSTCONTENT].21 less per 1,000,000 BTUs than wood pellets.

Here are the quick cost comparison formulas for wood pellets and natural gas:

Price per ton of wood pellets divided by 16 = Cost to produce 1,000,000 BTUs.

Price per therm of natural gas x 10.30 = Cost to produce 1,000,000 BTUs.

The quick cost formulas are useful only for comparing natural gas to wood pellets because their fuel efficiencies are similar. In order to calculate the effective, or true cost of any heating fuel for comparison purposes, you must factor in the fuel’s efficiency.

All fuel efficiencies are expressed in percentages. For example: coal is 60% efficient, electricity is 100% efficient and fuel oil is 80% efficient. In order to make the fuel efficiency percentage useful when you compare one fuel to another, you must find the coefficient of these percentages by dividing the decimal equivalent (60% = .60) by 1. So if you divide .60 by 1 you get a coefficient of 1.67.

The fuel efficiency rating for natural gas and wood pellets is 85%. If you divide 1 by .85 you get a coefficient of 1.18. Now plug this into our quick cost formula to obtain the effective, or true cost, of the fuel you are burning.

Wood Pellets: 8 divided by 16 x 1.18 = .60

Natural Gas: .1813 x 10.30 x 1.18 = .36

By expanding the quick cost formula to include the efficiency coefficient, the spread between the two fuels has now widened to [POSTCONTENT].24.

Assuming fuel prices don’t go crazy, you could save as much as during the remainder of this heating season by switching from wood pellets back to natural gas.

As prices change, feel confident that you have armed yourself with a simple, yet powerful tool to help you quickly determine when one fuel is more cost effective to burn than the other.

Here are the formulas to help you determine the true cost to produce 1mil BTUs of heat content for six more fuels:

Electricity: Price per kilowatt hour x 293 x 1 =
Corn Pellets: Price per ton divided by 16 x 1.18 =
Fuel Oil: Price per gallon x 7.1 x 1.25 =
LP Gas: Price per gallon x 11 x 1.25 =
Wood: Price per cord x .0607 x 1.67 =
Kerosene: Price per gallon x 7.41 x 1.25 =

that's probably the greatest list of music I've seen on here. A lot of good jazz and progressive, little bit of post-rock. Great taste if you're into all of those. Just seeing Harmonium and Jade Warrior mentioned is fantastic.

BQ: Can (Tago Mago/Paperhouse), Pink Floyd (Animals/Dogs), King Crimson (Red/Larks Tongues in Aspic, Pt. 1), Mr. Bungle (Disco Volante/Quote Unquote), Mars Volta (Frances the Mute/Cygnus...Vismund Cyngus)
BQ2: Green Day (Basket Case), ABBA (S.O.S.)

  5. QUESTION:
I Need Help Making An Inductor?
I want to make a search coil for a metal detector which happens to be just a simple inductor. My search head needs to have a 3 in dia and be no longer than 0.5in. My ideal inductor would be around 150mH. I can't seem to make this inductor properly. I built it using the formula L = r2 X N2 / ( 9r + 10len ) [Everything is converted to be in inches, and the output inductance is measured in uH]. I wrapped my coiled around a wood core which from what i hear is about the same permeability as air. I tried to test it by making a simple Colpitts oscillator (http://www.falstad.com/circuit/e-colpitts.html). The frequency i get when paired with the capacitor is always 60Hz, which is the frequency of the power source of the wall.

FYI - I'm in a university lab using dated oscilloscopes and DC generators for measuring and testing.

So I guess my question is, How do i know if I'm making this coil right?
When winding the coil, is it ok to overlap the windings and make multiple layers?
Whats an easy way to test the inductor to make sure it was made properly and theres no shorts in the enamel of the wire?

    • ANSWER:
That 60 Hz strongly suggests insufficient filtering of the power supply or even stray pickup in the scope leads. (I assume you're measuring voltage at the collector.) If you add more capacitance and the frequency is still 60 Hz, that confirms it. Fix those problems, and if you don't then see oscillation at the expected frequency, check the voltages around the circuit. To check the coil it would be a big help if you could get hold of an inductance meter; without one I'd try to drive just the L-C part with a square wave and look for ringing.
I'm not an oscillator expert, but your application is unusual because the desired output coil is part of the oscillator. It seems the Colpitts doesn't actually pump much energy into the coil since only base current flows through it. Perhaps a design that has the coil as the collector load (like those in the refs.) would give higher output.
P.S. Your link doesn't work as-is because you added ")." to it. Others who want to access it should edit it before using it.

Air Breeze Wind Generator

Air Breeze <b>Wind Generator</b> from Susitna Energy Systems

How to Select the Best Air Purifier For Your Needs

Indoor air pollution is a serious problem. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), air pollution levels are two to five times higher indoors. In some buildings with a lack of proper ventilation, the indoor air may be 100 times more polluted than the air outside! This is because modern buildings are constructed with energy efficiency in mind. However, the tight seals that make a home energy-efficient also trap pollutants inside. On top of that, the average American takes nine out of ten breaths indoors, so it's imperative to make sure that your indoor air is free of allergens and other impurities.

Air purifiers eliminate allergens, toxic chemicals, and other dangerous pollutants. This article explains why people use air purifiers, how they work, which air purifiers you should avoid, and how to select the best air purifier for your needs.

Common Indoor Air Pollutants

What is the source of indoor air pollution? In terms of organic pollutants, mold and dust mites are everywhere - and they are the two most common causes of year-round allergic rhinitis (hay fever). Pollen is also a pervasive allergen that always finds its way into your home since it is so small and sticky. If you have pets, they will surely spread their dander to every nook and cranny of your home. Many viruses and bacteria are also airborne.

Even though they are not organic allergens, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) cause many people to experience allergic reactions and other health problems. VOCs include formaldehyde, fragrances, pesticides, solvents, and cleaning agents. VOCs can enter the air through chemical off-gassing from furniture, new carpets, adhesives, plastics, and various building materials. Furthermore, many VOCs are known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents).

Environmental contaminants like cigarette smoke, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide may also be present in your indoor air, as well as toxic heavy metals like airborne lead, mercury vapor, and radon.

How Air Purifiers Work

HEPA air purifiers use a HEPA air filter, which was developed by the Atomic Energy Commission in the 1940s as a way to filter radioactive contaminants. HEPA filters set the standard for air purifiers: to be classified as HEPA, a filter must capture a minimum of 99.97% of pollutants at 0.3 microns or larger. Top-selling HEPA air purifiers include the Austin Air purifier, available with a HEGA (High Efficiency Gas Adsoprtion) filter, along with air purifiers from IQAir, Allerair, Blueair, and Honeywell.

Activated carbon filters remove gases, odors, and chemical toxins. The carbon is "activated" when it is treated with oxygen, which opens up millions of tiny pores to attract and adsorb chemicals. Impregnated carbon filters have been treated with an additional chemical, normally either potassium iodide or potassium permanganate; these chemicals, known as chemisorbents, improve the carbon filter's ability to trap VOCs and other chemically reactive gases.

Electrostatic filters use an electrostatic charge to attract pollutants and trap them on collector plates. These filters are great for people who don't want to have to worry about changing HEPA filters, but if the collection plates are not cleaned frequently, they quickly lose efficiency. Also, beware that some electrostatic filters emit ozone, which is known to be a powerful lung irritant and can be very irritating to some people with asthma or allergies. The Friedrich air purifier is, by far, the best electrostatic air purifier, as well as the overall top-ranked air purifier in previous Consumer Reports rankings

Charged media filters give pollutants an electrostatic charge before collecting them in a traditional filter. Charged media filters are typically quite effective, but like electrostatic filters, they lose efficiency rapidly—and they may require frequent and expensive filter changes. Some charged media air filter units also emit ozone. The advantage of charged media filters is that they are quieter and more energy-efficient than HEPA air purifiers. The Blueair air purifier is the best charged media filter, and it does not emit ozone.

Where and How to Use an Air Purifier

If you suffer from allergies (especially if you're allergic to dust mite allergen), then the best place for an air purifier is your bedroom. It's essential to have clean air in your bedroom because you spend about a third of your life there. If you're allergic to animal dander and have pets, then you may want to place an air purifier in the room where your pets spend most of their time—and keep the pets out of your bedroom! Also, you should not place an air purifier in the corner of a room; it should be at least a couple of feet away from the walls for maximum air flow.

You should run your air purifier continuously for optimum performance. Most air purifiers have high and low settings. Even if you go on vacation, we recommend that you keep your air purifier running on low. Otherwise, you'll return to a house full of polluted air! If you are concerned about your electric bill, find out how much energy an air purifier uses before buying it. Typical HEPA air purifiers can use anywhere from 50 watts on low to 200 watts on high. For comparison, a typical lamp uses about 60 watts, while a typical computer uses about 365 watts.

Air Purifiers to Avoid

Avoid ozone generators and ionizing air cleaners. These air purifiers create ions that attract pollutants; however, many of the pollutants are released back into the air, often times leading to dirty spots on nearby walls. Besides the fact that they don't do a good job of cleaning the air, ozone generators and ionizing cleaners also emit ozone. Ozone, a main component of smog, could potentially lead to a serious asthma attack.

Moreover, David Peden, researcher at the Center of Environmental Medicine and Lung Biology at the University of North Carolina, has examined how ozone exposure might exacerbate the allergic response of people who are allergic to dust mites, and his results suggest that ozone worsens the asthmatic response. The EPA has warned consumers against using ozone generators, and Consumer Reports recommends against the newest Ionic Breeze Quadra, despite the addition of OzoneGuard, a device meant to eliminate some of the dangerous ozone emitted by the Ionic Breeze.

Consumer Reports points out: "Our air-cleaning tests show that the Ionic Breeze with OzoneGuard does a poor job of removing smoke, dust and pollen particles from the air when new and after 500 hours of continuous use" and "the Ionic Breeze with OzoneGuard still adds ozone to the air."

How to Buy the Best Air Purifier

The air purifier market is vast and riddled with confusing and often misleading advertising schemes. If you're shopping for an air purifier, then you should first consider what kind of pollutants you're trying to eliminate. For example, if you have problems with cigarette smoke, then you'll want to make sure your air purifier has the ability to eliminate fumes, VOCs, and other gases. You may also want to consider the following factors before buying an air purifier: the area coverage (make sure the square footage listed for the air purifier is about the same or slightly greater than the square footage of the room where you intend to use it); the ACH rating (Air Changes Per Hour—this number lets you know how frequently the air purifier can exchange all the air in a given room); the CADR (the Clean Air Delivery Rate tells you how much air is purified and how well it is purified); the price; how often you have to replace the filters and how much they cost; the noise level of the air purifier; energy usage; whether it emits ozone; extra features (like a filter change indicator light); the manufacturer's reputation; and the warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    science paper .........................................?
    Energy resources are,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, define ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,.
A resource that can be replaced at the same time at which the resource is consumed is a renewable resource. Most of the resources we use are renewable like wind, solar, biomass and geothermal. While a nonrenewable resource is the opposite, it forms at a rate that is much slower than the rate it is consumed. Two examples are fossil fuels and nuclear. Described in the next two sentences are wind and nuclear energy.

Do you know that breeze when you go outside? It is wind. Wind is air in motion caused by uneven heating of the water and land. You can find this resource any where there is wind and big plots of land. Wind gets converted into energy by windmills or wind turbines. When the air flows over the blades it creates lift, which causes them to turn, therefore creating Kinetic energy. Wind is an inexpensive energy source and it also does not cause pollution. It is only useful where there is wind expensive to maintain.

The energy inside the nucleus is called nuclear energy. You can find this resource in rocks all over the world. The nuclear fuel fissions in a continuous chain reaction when the control rods are pulled. The fissioning fuel generates large quantities of heat within the fuel bundles in the core. The heat is transferred out of the core by primary coolant (water) and then into secondary water systems to create steam. The elevating steam drives a turbine, which is connected to a generator. Spinning the generator makes electricity.

    • ANSWER:
Looks good so far. At the end of your first paragraph, you have "Described in the next two sentences" where it should say "Described in the next two paragraphs" but other than that it reads well so far.

  2. QUESTION:
Novel... Should I Continue? VERY LONG!!!?
    Part One
My heart pounded in my chest, my throat was burning, ignited by my frantic gasps for air. I clenched my teeth, as the side of my face throbbed with pain, slowly ebbing away. I took a deep breath, and slowly let it out I watched my breath spiral into the star plagued night.
I listened to the wet sand-like gravel crunch beneath my sneakers. I sprinted across the field of iced over snow. My feet occasionally crashed through the hard ice and into the powdered snow underneath. The ice felt like shards of glass scrapping against my ankles as I hurriedly pulled my feet out of the mini crevasses.
Finally, I stepped onto the semi-dry wood and leaned on the freezing metal pole, trying to catch my breath. The moon glistened on the silver chain links. A gentle breeze crept through the night. The corners of my eyes watered as I silently grabbed the swings chains and sat down on the black rubber seat.
My eyes watered even more, warm tears rolled down my cheeks. My heart slowed to a heavy beat. I rested my forehead against the chains and closed my eyes. My legs and hands trembled, as I wrapped the wool shawl around my shoulders, soon drifting off into the past.
Vibrant green grass surrounded the two swings. Her strawberry blonde hair was neatly pulled back into a pony tail and the scent of sunscreen hung in the humid summer air. Her father held onto her hand, he wiped his forehead with his free hand. Suddenly she dashed to the swings and struggled to the seat. She squealed delighted as her father picked her up and swung her around, carefully seating her.
She giggled as he gave her a big push and then hopped onto the swing next to her. Leaning back she looked up at the almost cloudless sky. She stuck her hand out and clung to her fathers protective hand as we swung back and forth…
My glacial blue eyes flashed open. I wiped away my tears with my sleeve and sniffled. I gazed at the empty swing, the wind callously thrashing it back and forth. The half rusted chains creaked as I bolted into the howling wind. I anxiously prodded my coat pockets for my wallet until I came upon it.
My heart pulverized my chest as I raced to the General Store, against the torrential downpour. The sleet stung my face as the rain seeped through my black windbreaker. I clenched the three dollars in my shivering hand. The faint white glow of a street light became blurred as I blinked my long eyelashes, water dripped off my eyelashes. I crashed into the automated doors. I banged on the glass door with my fists as the generator roared to life. Fluorescent lights slowly flickered to life, freezers hummed quietly, and the doors threw themselves open, pushing me to the linoleum floor.
I quickly pried myself from the floor and shuffled to the third aisle. Impulsively I snatched a loaf of white wonder bread and squeaked my way to the refrigerators. My eyes felt heavy as I tiredly grabbed a jug of whole milk, wandering to the checkout. About to collapse I effortlessly relinquished the loaf of bread and chilled milk.
Overwhelming perfume pricked the tip of my nose. I squinted, my nose tingled and I sneezed. The cashier’s wrinkled hands scanned the light loaf of bread, her hands shook as she struggled to heave the jug of milk over the blinking scanner. A loud ‘bleep’ echoed through the nearly abandoned store. Suddenly there was a light tap on my shoulder. “Olivia?” I spun around, water spraying everything around me. “Mike!” A wide smile spread across my face as Mike and I embraced each other in a friendly hug. “Paper or plastic?” The clerk’s monotone voice scratched against the walls.
“Plastic please.” Mike giggled, “Your soaking wet, why did you go outside?” The clerk rasped. “.75” I let go of Mike’s warm body and shivered, handing the clerk 4 dollars and 75 cents.
“Um, I really don’t know.” I felt my insides twist with disgust as I lied to my best friend in the whole world. Mike chirped playfully, glancing at my swollen cheek. “Hey, wanna come over my place for dinner? My moms making Sheppard’s Pie, your favorite. Oh, what’s with your cheek? Looks like someone hit you.” I starred at the floor, grabbing the brown plastic bag. “It’s nothing. . .” I mumbled slowly walking away. Mike turned around to face his mother and shrugged. The auto-matic doors clicked open, and I ran at the speed of light, neglecting the sharp pangs of ice that slammed into my face.
I gasped, grimacing at the overflowed bridge. Twisting the bag and tying it shut, I jumped into the murky water. A bitter wave of shock washed over me. I kicked my legs, a blinding flash of lightning split the sky, and illuminated the grey world around me. My feet finally found solid land, I hastily sprinted up the small hill. A huge evergreen tree swayed violently from side to side. I watched in disbelief as the thick tree snapped in half, crashing to the pavement.
The malevolent wind drowned my weak scream. Blinded by the persistent rain I staggered over the fallen tree. It’s branches clawed at my legs, tearing through my jeans. I stumbled upon my darkened house. I quietly climbed over the wooden railing and slipped out of my drenched sneakers, tossing them under the porch table. I took the milk and bread out of the bag and rested them on the glass table, as I picked up my sneakers and dropped them in the bag, yet again tossing them under the table, like a dirt rag.
Pushing the door open I grabbed the milk and bread worriedly rushing to the kitchen. I jerked open the silver refrigerator and shoved the milk on the first rack. I ran back to the island and dropped the fresh bread on it.
I zipped to the sink and leaned my head over it. I twisted my hair, wringing it like an over-used dish towel. I yawned while I slowly dragged myself across the hall, and up the oak stairs. I paused in the pitch black hallway, gazing at my parents room. I stood there for a moment, shivering uncontrollably, like the way the chandelier shakes when a freighter train hurdles by. The floor creaked as I sluggishly turned around.
Stepping into my room was like reaching a sanctuary in the middle of a war zone. I grabbed a towel and dried the rest of my hair. I shrugged out of my sopping wet clothes and changed into my dry, silky pajamas. My exhausted legs gave out, and I collapsed, falling onto my plush bed. I snuggled into my fluffed pillows and fell asleep.

    Part Two

Micro Wind Generator

Eolic Foldable <b>Wind Generator</b> Brings Energy Anywhere | Cool Eco News ...

Operations Of Orgone Accumulators

An orgone accumulator is a unit that's made to change squandered energy in televisions, computer, automotive wiring, microwaves, big electrical machines, and high voltage lines straight into positive and pure forms of life energy. Knowing that, we can now enjoy the positive energy it brings. The unit is already regarded as an advancement to boost our ecosystem.

The orgone product is called Chi in Chineses, Prana in India, and Ki in Japan. We make an effort to describe how this breathtaking device functions through this coverage of the topic. Based on the professionals research, they found out that negative energy attracts the mechanical body and in turn it will dates back and forth to the equipment with impurities and resin. The energy is going to be converted into a crystalline structure. This energy is then re-released and radiates as totally clean and positive orgone energy.

History of Orgone Generators
Orgone energy is energy which exists around all the objects around us. The orgone generator was initially devised by Don Croft. He primarily based it on research by Wilhelm Reich executed for the purification of one's fields, either man-made or natural. These aren't harmful. What it does should be to expand the negative energy forms. All types of life, be it humans, insects, creatures, or plants, have responded positively to orgone energy.

The Creation Of Orgone Products
Honestly, the process is quite easy. DOR (Deadly Orgone energy) is generated by micro-wave towers, electrical appliance, mobile phone towers, and step-down transformers. Following the production, it will be converted to an orgone energy.

Regularly, most humans are exposed to EMF (electromagnetic fields) from household wirings, electrical appliance, hair dryers, toasters, and fluorescent lighting .

Don Croft built these units with the main intention of counteracting mental and physical health effects of ELF, HPRF, SCALAR, GWEN, and HAARP transmission towers. In addition to being well-designed to meet all these reasons, these units are also quite effective in serving as all-rounder energy cleaners or 'vacuums'.

Great things about orgone product
You'll love orgonite energy. For those that don't know the aspect at work behind the development of orgone energy, orgone accumulators carry good tidings and are a resource of positive life energy. You do know what that means, correct? You'll be living with your dog acting better, other people becoming friendlier, as well as your plants will start to thrive.

orgone products are designed to lessen the EMF production produced by electrical wirings found almost everywhere. As the world moves along, new invention constantly comes our way and therefore, negative energies also increases.
Orgonite items are rapidly gaining interest. Like what was stated above, it became quite well-known because of its positive effect to our environment.

The discovery of orgone generators has brought about a innovation in technology and marketing of positive energy. Regrettably, a lot of people have a tendency to commit suicide because of the ever developing way of life.

  1. QUESTION:
I wish to know wether the computer processer small fan will work as generator if we give some 200/300 RPM?
I want to fabricate a toy working model wind mill generator giving 12 volts /6volts. i have one small fan working on a micro processor on my old computer available with me . will this fan can be converted as generator . or any suitable ideas please

    • ANSWER:
Well no. In most cases a CPU fan these days is a blushless DC motor. That type of motor can not be used as a generator.

You need a permanent magnet DC motor. These motors can be found in many toys or purchased on line from solarbotics:

  2. QUESTION:
What is the best electricity generator for my scenario?
I have a 800 square foot cabin in Maine. I want to get electricity out there to power a t.v., radio maybe, MAYBE a computer, a room fan, basic lights, washer and dryer. Im wondering if I should use solar? Wind? there is a stream running nearby and Im curious about "Micro hydro turbines" to fuel my electricty. Im just looking to see which is best for the money, and electric output. - Thank you

    • ANSWER:
A fuel powered combustion generator is most cost efficient. You can get gasoline powered generators for under 0 per 1000W, which would do that.

Solar and/or a small wind turbine would be next up. You would need a battery set to store the charge, and an inverter to power your AC loads. Your computer, TV, and radio could be set up to work off of battery directly, if you choose the right ones.

Unless you are going to build a dam an all that, collecting energy from flowing water is not economical.

In any case, get a propane stove and dry your clothes on a line. You should get a tri-fuel fridge, if not a 12/120V one.

  3. QUESTION:
Can Anybody Find Anything But Hot Air in the Climate Bill?
This question is asked sincerely by a lifelong enviro. A supporter of Al Gore. But this bill appears to have been written by the coal companies based on 25 year old ideas, many of which were accepted by G.W. Bush the Moron President.

The whole idea of the market based solution -- the cap and trade solution -- making a market in pollution permits -- maybe having them brokered through a firm like Enron -- which I think did actually broker some of these permits for a while -- that idea is 25 years old. It is not change. It's just slapdash legislation based on making the old dregs by bygone ideas look like a new bill by updating the year and putting a new cover on it. It's like the old news that CBS, NBC, and ABC purvey -- stuff from a few weeks ago -- offered today as your "news".

Nobody in America is willing to do any part of their job anymore. It's a nation of AWOL officials and AWOL staffers and AWOL employees.

If they wanted a real climate bill, they would have included funding for the hydrogen technology. Ways to electrolytically dissociate water efficiently. Ways to store hydrogen efficiently. Ways to burn hydrogen in fuel cells, or in turbines (possibly combined with methane to make hythane (R).

There would have been a huge push for the sorts of thing T. Boone Pickens is recommending. Natural gas powered trains would have been in the mix -- and transcontinental tracks for same on the median strips of East West Highways.

Geothermal would have played a huge role. It is a very rich power source in some places, always on, not like solar or wind. Hawaii could power all seaborne freight in the Pacific with Geothermal based Hydrogen Fuel Cell Gas.

Tidal Hydro would have been in the bill.

Micro-scale wind generators (egg-beater style) would have beeb there.

The National Energy Spine (super efficient cable from coast to coast) would have been there. This creates conservation by allowing energy to be wheeled from coast to coast so peak loads can be met with cheap energy on both coasts.

Instead we get the ancient mantra "Let's find a market based solution (that way G.W. Bush The Moron President, and the Republicans can be happy). No breakthroughs please! No movement away from fossil fuels, and certainly no less coal or oil! We'll just do this with financial manipulations, sort of Enron style, with pollution permits, create a playground for the K Street lobbyists, make it look like we are doing something because what we do is so complicated administratively. That way we can do nothing -- and nobody will know.

With or without cap and trade the carbon footprint of the energy plants was bound to be legislatively reduced in future years. Cap and trade just bring Federal Pre-emption and knocks out the states ability to legislate on this matter. It's a form of state legal dis-ablement. It's a form of permission to just keep on keeping on -- more of the same.

The climate bill looks like a 100% perfect fraud, from the gitgo. Mr. Axelrod thinks it has a fairly good chance in the Senate because of the writing changes that were made at the last minute in the House, and on this he's probably right. Coal can see when it has a good deal. The whole issue now will be off the table for the next 10 or 15 years, and there are 10,000 ways that the "caps" can be removed or made more lenient, triggered by all sorts of extremely complex micro-pico-nano regulations that only the coal companies have time to figure out and understand and know how to lobby with. They can get out of the caps. They get a vacation for 15 years. They get out from under state laws. Whee ! ... this pollution stuff is easy!

All politicians are politicians. Nature is always Nature. So the Canute story is always apt. The vanity and the lies and the fraud never actually trumps nature, so you can count of on the climate to keep warming up and the CO2 levels to keep going up and the sea level and storm damage to keep going up. If we truly wish to stop being a hypocrite nation, we've got to get rid of all politicians. Put a truly independent agency in charge of climate change mitigation -- something like the Federal Reserve or the FCC or the NRC -- it's got to be able to make and implement rules smoothly and quickly. It's got to be run by Chairmen with long terms of office, at least 10 years, 15 would be better. The Chairman has to be mission focused, not politics focused. If can't get around the Canute Problem (The problem that wise King Canute taught his ministers about based upon knowing that Politics never trumps Nature)., we can't deal with the climate change issue. This new bill, is just more hot air. Maybe you can find something in it and tell me about what you think is there. Anyhow that's my question, asked by a true blue enviro, an AlGorista (with rhythm, hence an algorhythm, I'm a poet, I know it, float like a butterfly effect, sting like a karma-effect).
For Dana the Master of Science -- I know that H2 is not a mobile source fuel and never will be. For fixed point fuel cells, no problem, especially if mixed as Hythane (H2 + CH4). Here is Gao Bwo Fu, Doctus Juris, Magister Plutus to tell you read my book, "Cost-Effective Ways to Comply with the New Clean Air Act", or my articles published by Herald-Mail.

H2 is not a fuel for mobile sources, but it's fine for fixed point sources. If you want conversation why do you block all e-mail so I have to use this question extension to answer you? You can reach me by e-mail real easily, master of science (and where is your 600 page book on the subject of hydrogen burning -- cause mine is in the libraries). Never smarty-pants a smarty-pants.

Scepticism is next to Godlicism. I know it.

This science-thinker atheist says, "Bless you, keep those good questions coming!"

    • ANSWER:
Yes. For example, it will help increase fuel efficiency by 25% by 2020.
      http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/paltman/americans_save_on_fuel_bills_u.html

It requires that utilities produce 20% of their energy from renewable sources and increased efficiency by 2020.

It invests billion in energy efficiency and renewable energy by 2025.

It establishes new standards for building efficiency, requiring new buildings to be 30% more efficient in 2012 and 50% more efficient in 2016.

It directs EPA and the State Department to use 5% of the allowances to secure agreements from developing nations to prevent tropical deforestation.

It's certainly not a perfect bill, but it's pretty good, and it's the best we're going to get in the forseeable future. Plus it's much better to have a framework in place which we can improve upon in the future than to have nothing at all.

See the link below for a useful summary.

  4. QUESTION:
Does anyone want a gas-free,emissions-free vehicle?
    Check this out:http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=38609967

Is anyone interested in a kit that will convert any vehicle to technologies shown in links above?
I have improved above air-compressor designs with a radical new concept. It is being patented, so no one can copy this:

I use Siemens' in wheel electric motors as primary drive
I use the Italian design seen in second clip ( rotary air motor) in an on-board electric generator. ( Similar to Honda 2KW briefcase model)
    I use a Hemp-fiber (carbon-graphite) uni-body chassis on a aluminum tube frame.
My vehicle features "Flip-up" banks of micro-motorwind generators over windshield (which are like exterior visors). The pitch-drag coefficient is computer controlled, so maximum electricity generation can be achieved.
My vehicle also features a 88% solar surface.
In conclusion, my vehicle conversion kit will allow you to drive anywhere anytime, with NO gasoline costs ever! No toxic emissions ever! No sacrifice in current comforts!
    Here is how it works:
I want to have a TV show instead of "Pimp My Ride", "Green My Ride" . On this show, We strip vehicles of their gasoline engines, fuel tanks, transmissions, interiors, and all "non-green" components.
We then make modifications to include:
    Electric in-wheel motors, batteries,solar surfaces,air-compressor tanks and generator/compressor, motor-wind generators, Spring-loaded motors,docking cords,regulators,on-board computers, etc...

Would Americans buy a vehicle or a conversion kit if price was below 15K?

My vehicle feature a docking cord for recharging.
I have designed my vehicle to self-charging.
You are essentially driving a vehicle that runs on electric motors.
The batteries that power these motors are carried on board. The maximum time car would run at average speed of 60mph(without re-charge) would be 4 hours.
Using a 2 KW air-driven (rotary engine design)electric generator replaces 75% of depleted power "on the fly".
If it is a sunny day, 21% of expended charge is attained "on the fly".
If speeds of 35mph are reached during drive, another 27% is attained with motor-wind generators. In total , under optimum conditions, a surplus of electricity is generated. This is to insure power when sun is not available as a recharge source.
Vehicle comes fully-charged, if driven in the dark at 60 mph, the system would be totally full at the end of a 5 hour drive. This is because wind generators and compressed air generator would keep batteries topped off.
When compressed-air tank volume drops below 3000 psi, automatic compressor kicks in.
Vehicle is designed to keep all sources perpetually "topped-off".
There is a back-up spring motor unit which attaches to AC generator that allows a 4 hour operation for about 10 ,minutes worth of hand-cranking.
Spring-motor unit is 4 feet tall and is cranked with a sailing winch. When slipped over exposed drive-shaft on AC generator, this device can power a four-hour battery charge.

Once operated, vehicle will never run out of a charge.

    • ANSWER:
no...first the cost is too high,,,there is no warranty on a kit,,,the kit needs to be installed,,,[hard to find a good mechanic]...money is the bottom line...most americans will not go green if cost is too much

Marine Wind Generator

Choosing A Marine Wind Charging System

Even the smoothest, quietest running generators still burn fuel, make noise, exhaust, vibration, heat, and demand that someone be aboard to operate and monitor these things most of the time. Modern, efficient alternative marine charging systems are available and capable of supplying reliable back-up and even primary power demands.

Cruising the Bahamas (some years ago) in a sailboat with an unreliable engine and minimal battery capacity, we rigged a hand-made propeller to an alternator and hung it from the stays. It was noisy and in need of constant adjustment, but it actually worked for a while until its own vibrations dismantled it. Things are better now. New technology provides efficient high-output alternators, quiet composite aerodynamic blades, and better mounting systems and control panels.

In a battery charging situation the components of a wind turbine energy generating system are the wind turbine itself; the mounting system; the rectifier and the charge controller, some system protection (such as fuses or breakers), any metering required, and the batteries.

Loads on the batteries may consist of 12 volt, 24 volt, or 48 volt direct current (DC) equipment or alternatively a DC to AC inverter can be installed so that alternating current (AC) equipment can be supplied. The inverter can be selected to supply AC equipment of 110 volt or 220 volt, and 50 Hz or 60 Hz as appropriate. Direct battery charging configurations are typical in yachts, and the power can then be directed through an inverter as needed.

Check manufacturer's specifications for RPM outputs vs. wind speeds. When the wind blows, the rotor blade stops a percentage of the wind. That percentage is what is converted into energy. According to physics, the maximum amount of wind energy that can be converted is 59.3%.

This is known as the Betz Limit. Be sure to get a marine unit designed to withstand a wet and salt environment. Check also for the DB (sound level) output. A wind turbine that sounds like a helicopter can destroy that evening ambiance. And if you're planning for long range cruising, make sure you will have access to parts.

Sailboats are the most common beneficiaries of wind power since they do not need (or like) to run engines, and usually have smaller fuel capacities. When choosing a location for mounting your wind generator, keep in mind that the best mounting spots allow the generator a free and unobstructed flow of the wind while keeping the rotating blades a safe distance from any rigging or possible body contact.

Stern Pole - The most common mount used for a wind generator is a stern pole. These can be easily fabricated from aluminum pipe, mount the unit clear of the deck and rigging, and provide relatively easy access for servicing. They have the added advantage of leaving any noise downwind while at anchor.

Radar Arch - Another variation of the stern pole with a lot more versatility allowing easy mounting of many different pieces of cruising gear including wind generators, solar panels, antennas, and often a tender. On my catamaran the arch is also stowage space for a life raft, and provides a shade awning behind the cockpit.

Mast Mount - If your boat has two masts, you may want to consider mounting your wind generator either 2/3 of the way up on your aft mast, or all the way at the top. This location provides for much more wind and results in a cleaner looking deck. You can buy commercially available brackets or have one fabricated specifically for your purpose.

If you need to service your wind generator, however, this location can make the task quite challenging. Also, be aware of the added stress factor on the rigging.
Fore-triangle Hoist - If you just can't seem to find a suitable spot to mount a wind generator, you might want to consider hoisting it in the fore-triangle. Although it won't be usable underway, hoisting a generator on the foredeck while at anchor is a reasonable way to supplement on-board power. Some wind generators are designed to be deployed and stowed, and feature components that are easy to disassemble and store.

Now we need to wire everything up. To regulate current flow, most wind generators require a controller. A charge controller senses the state of charge of your battery bank and halts or redirects the output from the wind generator when your batteries reach full charge. Many charge controllers for wind generators redirect the charging current to a dummy load as your battery bank approaches a full charge.

The mounting location for your charge controller can be anywhere between the wind generator and the battery bank, but it is usually placed near the batteries for ease of wiring the voltage sensing leads.
The last step before actually seating the wind generator is to run your wiring from the generator to the charge controller and onto the battery.

Before you can do that, you need to determine what size wire you'll need. Wire size is a function of the amount of current the wire will carry along its round trip length from the generator to the batteries, and then back to the generator.

When you run the wiring through the deck, and for stern pole mounting plates, don't forget to waterproof any holes. High quality sealants such as 3M 101 or Sikaflex 291 will do the trick. Once inside the boat, your wiring will snake through lockers and maybe under headliners until it finally reaches your charge controller. If you're lucky, you may find an existing conduit running to your batteries or electrical panel area. Do some poking around first to see if one exists before drilling your own route for the wires.
At your charge controller you'll find several easy connections.

Two voltage sense leads will run to your batteries, the positive leads from your wind generator will connect to the positive input on your controller and the positive output from your controller will lead to your positive bus. In this positive output line, install an in-line fuse holder that will eventually house a fuse rated at 1.5 times the rated output of your wind generator, but don't insert the fuse yet. Your negative wire from the wind generator may or may not bypass the controller depending upon the model. It should eventually connect to your common electrical ground.

Your final connection is the one that is going to be made as you install and mount the wind generator itself. Connect the outputs from the wind generator to your already run wiring, and slide the generator onto the mount. Keep enough extra slack wiring to allow you to easily uninstall the unit in the future for servicing. Insert the above mentioned fuse, wait for the breeze, and you're in business.

Whether you plan to cruise the oceans, or your yacht waits at the mooring for your next time-off adventure; free, non-polluting wind turbine power keeps those batteries charged and ready to go.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Do you want a free Electric Car?
I have a plan for America.
If I were Obama, This is what I would do:

The establishment of another branch of armed forces to deal with war on energy,"The Energy Force"- To be equal in power to existing branches of armed forces,Army,Navy,Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard.
This new force will be tasked with and funded to convert our nation to a "greener" place. (once operational, designed to be self-funding)EX:
Construction of alternative energy stations nationwide (conversion of existing service stations using oil)Collection of revenues from Green Energy will be The Energy Force's Job.
All US held automobile manufacturers will be seized and converted by Energy Force to build Electric, Hydrogen fuel cell cars.
The use of Gasoline and petroleum-based fuels will be outlawed and replaced by Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2010.
All troops and diplomats withdrawn from middle east and oil war areas by 2010.
All debts repaid to China and other nations by 2010
Every American Citizen as of 2010 allowed to stay in country with full health care benefits, all others must leave.
My Presidency will legalize marijuana and scientifically exploit all industrial aspects of this plant.
I will lift ban of stem cell research and enthusiastically fund any research that can better mankind's ability to heal disease.
Any adult in good standing legally can commit to any other adult as they see fit for purposes of marriage in any state or protectorate of the US.
US Energy Force will be responsible for all of the nation's energy needs, there will no longer be an open market for energy and power, as this will be the sole area of focus for new Force.
Under this authority, all Power companies (Consolidated Edison,etc...) will become the property of the Energy Force. Wind Generators will be constructed nationwide and offshore where wind abound.Solar arrays, wave farms, all viable alternative sources of Energy will be studied and used. All of this infrastructure will be run by enlistees of this new Force.
All teenage students who wish to get a vehicle when they turn 14 may join the Energy Force as early as 10 years old. All Americans who wish to own a vehicle for personal use, must do work for Energy Force to earn a vehicle and a license.
All roads and highways in this country will be outfitted for autopilot as there will be 0 tolerance for automobile accidents, deaths, injuries, etc.
All transportation to be computer controlled and free for all who join Energy Force.
The new jobs in all areas of converting and maintaining new transportation systems will generate millions of jobs. All Commercial and private transportation will be regulated by Energy Force.
In our country, all citizens will be provided with free transportation for any purpose as long as they are a contributing reservist in the Energy Force.

The Energy Force will be set up like conventional military with schools, housing, basic training, full health benefits, recruiting offices and facilities for public education.
Once one joins Energy Force they are a member of that branch of the armed forces until they wish to stop driving or using energy.
Every Us Citizen will be eligible to join the Energy Force, including those who are in jail. It is hoped that many can be released to work towards building new American Energy plan.

I would make it so the voting age is lowered to and a part of joining Energy Force at 10years old.
Everyone in this country can contribute to a greener country, those who are too old or too feeble to work will be given classes in how to conserve. A Big part of the Energy Force will be using today's youth to be involved with our elders and disabled in community programs promoting Energy Independence.

I will promote the arts and sciences more than the religious groups, and I WILL welcome all helpful input towards stated goals.

The Energy force will take us out of our troubles and fix things as they should be.
The United States will be free of many bad things if you elect me:
    No more electric bills
    No more gas bills
No more transportation worries ( all who join Energy Force earns vehicle)
No more traffic accidents ( Road network fixed with Autopilot interface stripes in pavement)
    No more Deaths by car
No more highway noise zones near neighborhoods (hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are quiet and clean)
No more failing US Auto Companies
    No More Failing Airlines
No more war for oil ( hopefully no more U.S. bullying of oil countries, thus less terrorism etc... World Peace?)
    No more oil dependency
    No more Gasoline vehicles

No more stupid arrests for Cannabis
No more people dying who could have been helped by banned research in medicine
No more military relying on taxes for funding

if i get it for free, then someone else has had to pay, and that's not fair.

now if i'm handicapped in some way, i'd appreciate some help, and since i'm not, i don't mind contributing to those who are.
in particular, i think it's shameful that a large percentage of our homeless population are Vietnam Veterans.

Build A Wind Generator

How to Build a <b>Wind Generator</b> | DIY and Repair Guides

How To Build A Wind Generator For Home With Only 0

Going green doesn't mean you have to be expensive. You can build a wind generator efficiently and produce renewable energy without having to pay thousands of dollars. There are ways to harness renewable energy without spending ,000 to ,000 for a renewable energy system. Knowing what to use and how to use it can literally save you thousands of dollars, on materials and saved electrical expenses.
Yes You Can Build A Wind Generator For 0 or Less
Going green is as much about being resourceful as it is about saving our planet. Knowing what materials to build a wind generator with is very important. You can take two roads when you decide to build renewable wind energy. You can use a factory built motor or you can build a wind power generator from scratch. Servo or PM ( permanent magnet ) motors are most commonly used for generators, whether you build your generator from scratch or buy a factory motor. Either way, permanent magnet generator is the ideal choice to build a wind generator with. The PM generators are don't contain brushes and and have less electrical slip. If your considering building your own renewable energy system for under 0 then you should consider buying a factory made motor. A factory built motor will keep the material costs down and they take much less skill to implement.
Build A Wind Generator With Low RPM High Voltage Motors
Be careful what motor you choose to build a wind generator with. You want a low RPM high voltage motor. AMETEK makes these types of motors, but they can also be found in countless household appliances and exercise machines. I used AMETEK as an example because they are the most commonly used motors to produce electricity.
Motors that give out high voltage at low RPM's are great for wind generators. A bad example of a motor to use would be a car alternator. A car alternator needs to spin at high RPM's to produce voltage. It would be difficult to efficiently use a car alternator for electricity. A good example of a motor for a wind generator would be AMETEK 40 volt DC (AMETEK 40vdc) permanent magnet generator. Although the 40 volt dc is not the best choice it's the most easily obtained, and a great motor to start with. These wind generator motors can often be picked up on eBay from to . When you start looking at motors that are 50v to 90v the price goes up. At that point you should consider building two wind generators with smaller motors than one big one. You'll have more electrical output for a much better price. With a good guide you will learn how to get your tower and batteries for free. This leaves wiring and housing as a cost. Expect to spend anywhere from to for wiring and connectors. Don't go cheap on the AWG of your wire, or you might lend yourself to voltage drop. I'd also recommend wooden blades opposed to plastic pipe. You can make a good set of wooden blades in less than an hour, and they'll last much longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How do I build wind power generator?
    Hi,

I have heard about a lot of people who have build their own wind power generators. I am looking to setup one at my house and was wondering where I can get more information on how to build my own wind power generator.

Any help would be much appreciated

    • ANSWER:
Check out the DIY section of the site below, you can save money while doing something for our environment.

  2. QUESTION:
where can I find free plans to build a wind generator for my home?
I want to build a generator to power my barn, only a few lights and plugs

    • ANSWER:

  3. QUESTION:
How do I build a homemade wind generator?
Wondered if anyone knew how to build a simple homemade wind generator to power our home? A homemade wind generator that is not too complicated would be good. Do you know how to build a wind generator? Please help us.Thanks

    • ANSWER:
The first thing you need to do is figure out how big of a wind generator you need. Most wind generators that are over 1000 watts in generating power are quite a bit more difficult to build. You will need to have your wind generator 15 feet above any obstruction within 300 feet. That is a must.
Some great resources exist but probably reading an article or two about building wind generators would help a lot. Try the resource I listed for a very informative article, there is mention of a website in the article where you can find some great wind generator plans too. Hope this helps, we have built 3 wind generators so far with these plans.

  4. QUESTION:
Plans to build a wind generator?
I am looking to find free plans to build a wind generator to charge up my 12 volt batteries at camp..any suggestions ?

    • ANSWER:
I don,t have any plans on paper but, they sell windmills as decorations on landscapes. Look them over and see if they have a shaft with two pillow blocks so you can attach a pully. Then go to an auto junkyard and get an old 12 volt generator. Put a pulley on both the windmill shaft and the generator, ( which of course will already have a pulley on it), then an appropriate belt to connect them both. If you have the knowledge, you can wire in a voltage regulator.

To protect the system from over speeding in excessively high winds, a centrifical throwout clutch could be attached to the end of the windmill shaft.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

  5. QUESTION:
Can you use a car alternator to build a wind generator?
I am very interested in trying to build my own small wind generator, I seen that you basically need a alternator, blades to build the fan, cabling and a battery. So could you use a car alternator and also how many 12V batterys would you need?
I think that was a little rude, judging by what you posted you seem to be a all around d*ck!

But thanks to the others who replied, you info was very helpful. thanks again.

    • ANSWER:
You may have better success with an alternator with the field coils replaced with permanent magnets and the regulator removed. This will maximize the voltage output and allow you to regulate the voltage at the battery bank. The less electronics and other items to break up the tower the more reliable the system will be.

You should use deep cycle batteries, not automotive starting batteries. The number of batteries will depend upon the voltage your system operates, power capacity of the generator, and size of inverters. Do not go overboard with too many batteries or the generator will never be able to fully charge them.

There is someone near me who is building the blades with PVC pipe. He uses it to turn a permanent magnet DC motor to act as the generator. I'll try to find his web page later.

I'm hoping to get back to my wind generator project shortly. It's been tied up in municipal bylaws and idiotic permits...

Magnetic Motor Generator-free Energy Device To Generate Your Own Electricity

Did John Christie invent a free energy device that would solve the world's dependency on oil and allow anyone to generate their own electricity for free? In this article, I will tell you who John Christie is and what he did back in 2001. I will ask whether his invention did change the world and what you can do today in 2011 to generate your own free electricity.
John Christie And The Lutec 1000
John Christie, Australian mechanical engineer, launched a device to the world in 2001. It was named the "Lutec 1000" and was developed by him and an electrician friend, Lou Brits. It was claimed that their device was the first free energy magnet motor generator to be launched commercially.
Despite lots of early promise, nothing on a commercial scale ever materialised although there are plenty of video demonstrations of the device working that can easily be found on the internet.
Why Was It Not A Commercial Success?
Many of these pioneers are great at inventing but lack the commercial know-how to take a great product from prototype to mass distribution.
Think of the typical genius innovator on a TV show like Dragons Den and compare them to the Dragons who know how to make multi-million dollar deals and you will see that there is a world of difference.
It is also thought that their work was sabotaged or suppressed in order to prevent a commercial reality. Such industrial sabotage of magnetic motor devices has been going on for decades and is thought to be committed by oil-dependent industry cartels and others with vested interests in the status quo, even including national governments.
What Is "Free Energy" And How Does It Work?
These motors use technology for a relatively new, fringe area of physics known as "zero point". This say that we need not depend on oil for our energy needs but can in fact create energy via other means.
John Christie's invention is like many other similar motors in that it uses strategically placed magnets to convert the forces due to magnetism into mechanical (usually rotary) motion.
How Can I Generate My Own Electricity?
Commercial magnetic motors are less than five years away from release but if you want to quit paying your power bills right now then your best bet is to make your own device, a task which is even more simple than making your own solar panel or wind turbine.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
will a electric dc golf cart motor work for a wind generator motor?

    • ANSWER:
Absolutely! But there is a small catch. If you want to use a DC motor as a generator with it's max efficiency, you need to change it's "firing" timing. In a motor like you want to use, you will probably be faced with a notch and tab timing secure. You will need to remove the base of the motor that contains the brushes, and cut off the tab that holds the timing position. Then replace the base and drive the motor as a generator. You will need substantial RPM's. As you are turning the motor as a generator, rotate the base until you get the absolute highest output, both amps and volts.

Secure the base with the new timing position, and you'll be good to go!

  2. QUESTION:
Making a DC motor powered wind generator?
this is for a project i have for my Energy and powers class, i need information on how to make a wind generator but it has to be able to work on a DC motor. The thing is what makes this hard for me is that it can only be 28 inches tall. Please help, I forgot about it and it's due this week!
it would help to if there was a diagram for it too.

    • ANSWER:
I own and install smaller wind generators.

I assume this is a model?

A small, 360 or 540 can electric motor from any hobby shop will be a good size to use, and only a few dollars.

The same hobby shop if it is at all useful will have various pulleys and propellors that can be fixed to the shaft. If you mount a very large (say 14 or 16") diameter coarse pitch (8" or more would be good) prop the motor will not require a lot of air flow in order to over come the 'camming' effect of a permanent magnet motor and start to turn it, it won't go fast but if you set a finer pitch prop on it it will take heaps of wind just to get it turning, or might not produce any useful power at all.

The problem with the standard air screw is that it will have to be used backwards, but if you only have a few days left you can't be choosy.

If you get a piece of wood about 14" long, about 2" x 2" you could screw it standing up vertically to a large piece of ply, and having cut a 1/2" groove across the top 2x2 face you can secure the motor to this by putting a nail or screw each side down about an inch and stretching a few ruber band across the motor, as many as needed - it will be rock solid if done right.

Then you can solder or plug on the two wires to the terminals of the motor and lead them to your multimeter and load (bulb, little motor whatever) and go and find some wind.

If the point of the project is to make a wind generator, i.e. blow wind then the same thing will work, just apply a small current (say 6v one or two amps) to the motor and off it will go. You would be better off in that case by fitting a smaller prop, say 7x4 and see how that goes - it will rev so watch your fingers.

Again the hobby shop should have all you need.

Just type in wind generator to google and you will get about three years of info and reading. There is some really dodgy stuff out there - at the moment there are lots of scams from the look of it that even claim people are making 200 watt solar panels at home from scrap and a few dollars worth of stuff - yeah right...........

      Good luck. :)

  5. QUESTION:
How to make a DC motor into a wind generator?
I need to make a wind turbine for a science project, i have everything else sorted.

I'm using a DC motor from an old remote controlled car that used a 7.2 volt battery. Is there anything i need to do to this before it can be attached to the spinning shaft of the windmill, or can i hook up the wires to a lightbulb and let the thing spin?

    • ANSWER:
You might want to gear it up, using a large gear or pull on the wind blade shaft, and a small gear or pulley on the generator.

How A Diy Wind Generator Can Help Make Your Life Better

Do you reside in a place where you feel you will be able to put the gustiness of the wind to good use? Then you ought to by all means obtain your own DIY wind generator for your residence. If you are curious on the way it will be able to make your life better, then keep reading to find out more.
You will be stunned to learn that these days, there are a lot of wind generator kits available to the normal customer. What seemed to be merely a simple science project of invention in the past decade, is a viable alternative source of energy that lots of individuals are beginning to warm up to. There's a wide array of diverse types and sizes that you can choose from determined by where you want to to install it on your property. And not to mention numerous offers and special deals that various merchants and manufacturers are giving with each kit. So prior to you get excited and begin buying every single type out there, be sure that you do your research first so that you will be more apt to pick.
The essential parts in a wind generator are the propeller, the rotor, the tower and the generator which is highly responsible in transforming wind energy to electricity that can be used in the house. It is also important to mention that the wind generator needs a powerful battery system that will be capable to correctly store the electric energy which will be produced.
It would be wise to install the DIY wind generator on a high tower in order that it will be subjected to more power that could then be changed to electricity. For the reason that the rate of the wind is of course a lot quicker the higher it is from the earth. Stronger wind means stronger pressure to push the propellers to rotate faster and more electricity will be stored.
The great part of a DIY wind generator system is that you will be able to take control over the various components that you might want to change. As an example, if you want a wider propeller to catch the wind, you are able to easily ask for a larger one from the producer or store you're buying form. You will also be able to be more flexible when it comes to the design and other specs for example blade location and turbine power capacity. You can even choose more battery backups systems so that you are ensured of having stored electricity even during the days when the wind in the area is not strong enough.
A DIY wind generator is important if you would like to be able to help the environment by depending more on renewable sources of energy rather than the electric companies. This then will help you save more money on power costs because you are making use of a free renewable source of energy. As long as you do the maintenance measures which are specifically necessary on your wind generator, you can expect a smooth sailing power source for a very long time.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What parts of a wind generator change kinetic energy into electical energy?

    • ANSWER:
The winds spin the large external blades (the part that looks like a propeller), which spins the internal portion of the generator, which creates electricity.

Winds are kinetic, blades and internal turbine turn it to electrical energy.

  2. QUESTION:
What kind of motor/other parts for a home built wind generator?
What kind of motor and other components should i get to create as many watts as POSSIBLE! If the average wind speed is at about 40MPH? Please do not question the wind speed just answer the question.
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
First off a standard car generator such as used on the old VW beetles is self generating. A turbine such as used in hydroelectric dams is self generating.. The difference between the two? Turbines produce AC power which does not charge lead acid batteries...and generators produce DC power(which can charge a lead acid battery) You do not need a battery.
Most high output alternators need a initial power supply such as a 12 volt car battery before the alternator will produce power and that power is AC . It then needs to have a rectifier to take half of the current and use that half only(similar to DC) to charge the battery in a car.
Read up on electricity principles on Wikipedia to gain a better understanding as to how it works and design your own system. Also understand the relationship between voltage, amperage, and watts. Also gear ratios (or in this case pulleys) Also best design of a windmill blade.

  3. QUESTION:

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
i need a solar panel and wind energy generator?
i need a solar panel (or panels together) that's no bigger than 16" by 10". the panel(s) need to produce a combined total of at least 7 volts and roughly 50 amps (50000 MA) and higher preferably 8 volts 70 amps. i need the panel(s) to be under 0 if possible. now with the wind generator i need something small like salt shaker size or smaller than i can rig to a fan or something

    • ANSWER:
If this is not a troll or a joke, then to answer seriously, what you want is not possible on earth. The incoming solar flux (light from the sun) has only about 1/3 of what you are requesting, even outside earth's atmosphere.

However, a lead-acid battery could fit within the dimensions you specify, and provide that kind of power, at that cost. If you're serious, then post another question with details of your end application, instead of just power specs. People can help you out.

You can hook up fan blades to a small hobby motor, and get something about the size of a salt shaker. It might be enough to recharge a cell phone, in steady wind. Again, if you post details, people can help you.

  2. QUESTION:
Which of the following energy-transformation equations best describes the operation of a wind generator?
Which of the following energy-transformation equations best describes the operation of a wind generator that is used to power an electric can opener?
    a) Thermal energy > electrical energy > Kinetic Energy
    b) wind energy > thermal energy > kinetic energy
    c) kinetic energy > electrical energy > kinetic energy
    d) electrical energy > kinetic energy > thermal energy

    • ANSWER:
      C

The wind is moving and therefore has kinetic energy.

This kinetic energy drives a turbine, creating electrical energy.

This electrical energy is then used to operate the can opener, which uses kinetic energy to open the can.

  3. QUESTION:
What are the best Deep Cycle batteries to use when storing energy from a wind generator and a solar panel?
I hear the forklift batteries are the best but they are to heavy to transport so I was thinking something a bit smaller but still capable of storing a lot of energy.
Well thank you very much !

    • ANSWER:
Deep cycle batteries are the correct choice for renewable energy systems. Unlike your car battery, deep cycle batteries are made to be deeply discharged and recharged many times over the life. When selecting batteries for solar and wind systems, flooded lead acid (FLA) batteries are the most cost effective. They also require maintenance -i.e. regularly checking the fluid level to ensure longest life. FLA batteries offer the largest storage potential, and batteries can be up to several hundred pounds each.

Besides FLA batteries there are also sealed gel cell and absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries for RE applications. These batteries are more expensive than FLA batteries and are generally smaller in storage capacity. They are good for remote applications where maintenance would be difficult, and because fluid levels do not need to be maintained, they have a shorter lifespan than the FLA batteries.

Remember to be conservative when calculating battery size for a stand-alone solar or wind system. If your battery bank is undersized, you will not be able to supply the energy you had planned. Battery bank is size is directly dependent on the amount of Watt-hours you are supplying; how many days of autonomy you will need; the depth of discharge; and inverter efficiency. Be sure to look at the battery warranty as well. Rolls-Surrette batteries are known for their quality and are also a bit more expensive upfront. But high quality batteries, if properly cared for, will outlast cheaper batteries and save money in the long run.
      Good luck!

Does it really take more energy to produce a wind generator than what the wind generator will produce?
I heard someone say this a little while back and was wondering if this could be validated by anyone with a little evidence.

    • ANSWER:
Not so. Depending on size, cost, location and wind conditions payback time is 8 to 10 years. Average life is 15 years.
